| Our Wedding Day | Yah, we got married too ;) | 01.07.11 |

Good morning all!

Hope you all are rested, comfy, and ready to hear this crazy story of boy meets girl.

5 years ago Kat and Dan decided to go to school to study photography with the intention of pursuing it as their professional future. Not really knowing what to expect and not knowing what type of photography they would take on as their main focus, they kept open minds. Along the way, while supposedly studying, practicing and learning, they met each other. And while being complete opposites (tall vs. short, loud vs. quiet, Nikon vs. Canon :p) they clicked… ha ha like a camera ;) Only a few months after meeting they were dating! And only a few months after that, they shot their first wedding together. Kat liked to photograph things, Dan liked to photograph faces… but for some reason white dresses came along and captured their hearts and creativity and they have never looked back… Well except for a little sidetrack architecture work now and then.

I know you are all wondering, who was Canon? Who was Nikon? Kat was Canon, Dan was Nikon… and purely because Dan had already spent gross amounts of $$$ on Nikon gear, Kat crossed over to the dark side ;)

On to our wedding;

We got married at our favourite restaurant in the world, Brix Restaurant in Yaletown. They rock there!  So helpful and accommodating!

We kept things small and intimate, we had only 53 people… including our 4 photographers ;)

We had our amazing friend (and Dan’s early mentor in all things photography) Barry Calhoun shoot for us… Even though he had sliced open his hand a week earlier and effectively was one handed all day. Helping him was our regular assistant Julian Kenchenten , and our uber awesome friends Jaya and Tye (who are crazy awesome in their own right).

Kat had two maids of honour a bridesman.

We had Sgt. Argent drive us around in an awesome 1948 Mercury Vancouver Police Car… Cause you know, why not! ;)

Okay on to the pics!

Dan’s cufflinks…because being dorky on your wedding day it totally alright. Kat got these for me! Kat’s getting all done up by Melanie Tremblay from Mink Makeup + Hair … We met her at BC Wedding awards where she won for best hair !  She’s so great! Kat’s dress hanging in our loft, where the girls got ready

This would be one of our kittens, Milo. He’s rather curious and one of the girls had to get him away as he started to claw a little and that’s not really the best thing for wedding dresses.

Kat’s sister Jenn is on the left, Kat’s best friend Naz is on the right, both Maids of Honour!

Mom :) Check out the ink!
We did a first look in our loft, as we took a bunch on photos before the ceremony. And yes Dan is that tall. Dan, me… I’m very happy. Kat is so pretty! Haha, which one is Dan. Dan and his ‘nearly’ identical twin of a younger brother. Inside the car Outside the car!!! Love that car! And thanks to Sgt. Walley who pulled some strings for us to get it. So I couldn’t help it… I just had to take a few pics of my beautiful wife-to-be on our wedding day. It got everyone laughing… I did give the camera back to the ‘official photographers’….eventually…. We’re in the back streets near Main St. and 2nd ish… Ooooooo there’s Kat’s bridesman Ali keeping the ladies warm. It was a little chilly that day. And there’s the whole gang. The boys… well their pants and shoes and hands at least. Julian’s snap. Fun fact, he JUST got his new camera the day before our wedding! He switched to Canon.  I gave him a hard time for it all day. Jumping around, check out Dan’s brother Josh on the far right. The bride and her gals…and dude with funny socks. We hit up one of our fav locations on the way to Brix, it’s the Arthur Erickson Waterfall Building . We might have to stop coming here soooooo often. We just love it so much! Haha, our photographer used our frankenstien lighting gear… just before this shot I think I even changed a flash tube for them or something… Can’t remember, the day is a blur! And on to the ceremony! We had it in the covered courtyard at Brix! Like I said, we kept it small… Only 6 tables. We had a quick champagne toast and then we went right into our first dance… I know we switched things up a bit.

Kat with her Dad. Dan with his mom. While we were dancing it up, our photogs snapped some details of the restaurant all done up. Kat wanted candles… so we had 8 cases of wine bottles with drip candles… Cool eh ;) In lieu of guest favours we donated to the BC Cancer Foundation . Speaches, some words were said… some embarrassing… okay mostly embarrassing.

And thats all folks!!

Hope you enjoyed!

| Lisa | Bridal Session |

Vancouver Portrait Photographers

We are very excited to present to you… drum roll please… our very first shoot in our NEW studio/loft. Although we didn’t originally intend to use our space as a studio we couldn’t help but notice what a lovely quality of light our 14 feet of windows created against our 20 foot tall white walls… Yeah, we’re pretty happy about that :) And what a lovely subject we had to photograph in our virgin studio :P … PS you’ll notice a lot more :) and ;) and :P , why? Because Dan is writing this blog post and that’s just the way I roll ;)

We started in the loft for some lovely bridal portraits of Lisa! We played around with some soft window light, threw in a little directional softbox light and then tried some harder, gridded light… A little drama never hurt anyone :P

Oh and did I mention we used our Barcelona chairs as props… LOVE THOSE SOOOOOO MUCH!!!
This next one would be that above mentions hard/gridded light. What can I say, I like to do different things. And Lisa’s lovely features took well to our strange lighting.

Love that last one Kat took.

Some dress details. After 45 minutes in the studio we went outside to find some pretty light and cool backdrops. And what did we find? Why it’s a vine covered garage door thingy. Just the perfect thing for bridal portaits.

And check out that lighting!!! We can’t take credit for creating this, thanks to another silver garage door we had great fill/directional light! Have I mentioned in this post how much I like light?!?! Kat snapped this while I was fiddling with flashes, never mind we didn’t even use them at this point. Love her composition, love this location! We are just off our beloved Main St.

Some of our famous angle again… Okay maybe not famous… but we always get a laugh pullin this off… Kat jumps on my shoulders, I stand up, and suddenly she grows from 5 foot something to 8 foot plus. Fun times ;)

Last few details and we’re outa here. Hope you all enjoyed, Lisa you rocked that dress! Hope you had a blast too, cause we sure did! ;) :) :P

| Tim & Tamlin | Engaged! |

Vancouver Wedding Photographers

TimTam!  Dan has known Tamlin since they were wee little ones.  I met them when we shot Tamlin’s brother’s wedding ( Austin & Johanna ) two summers ago.  We recently attended Tamlin’s surprise birthday party at her parent’s house in Ladner, oh man it was awesome.  They both come from amazing families, and everyone can’t wait to see the lovebirds tie the knot this coming July!

Tim and Tamlin are pretty much all fun 100% of the time.  It was all laughs at the party, and all laughs during their engagement session.  To be honest, it’s kind of intimidating photographing people we know; friends, family, acquaintances.  The pressure’s on!  But it didn’t feel like that at all with Tim and Tamlin!  They’re great in front of the camera, and just so darn cute together, it was hard to stop photographing them!

So basically The Waterfall Building is one of our favorite locations in Vancouver. Can anyone tell!?  We try not to come here too much so that we don’t over photograph this location, but Tim & Tamlin wanted to and we’re glad we did. It was a FREEZING day, and Tamlin braved it in a dress. Awesome smile! Awesome shoes!  Both pairs! Our signature angle (well not really), but when the shot calls for us to be higher, up on Dan’s shoulders I go! Epic! We didn’t notice till later on during the shoot that Tamlin had this cool necklace on, shaped like an envelope.  And it flipped open!  And there was a little piece of paper with a love note from Tim to Tamlin!  How incredibly cool!  And romantic!
Tamlin’s got some pretty damn sexy legs!  And a cute dress and shoes…so well dressed! Last shot at The Waterfall Building…. Next stop: Granville Island .  More specifically, the storage facility for the dragon boats at False Creek Community Centre.  Very cool!!!
Out came the Holga camera for these next few shots!  Tim’s brother Joel gave this camera to Tamlin for Christmas.  They took a bunch of pictures of each other during these shots too :p And we found a wall that matched the camera.  Saweeet! Beautiful eyes! A very special ring.  Tim proposed to Tamlin with his grandmother’s wedding ring.
TimTam buscuits!  Very chewy when trying to eat in the cold….chocolate all over the teeth…..but soooo worth it.  If you have never had them before, drop everything you are doing and go to the store and buy some and eat them with a big glass of milk.  You will not regret it.  Thanks for sharing them, Tim and Tamlin!  I think Dan and I ate the majority of them :s

How stunning is that reflection?!

We are VERY much excited for Tim and Tamlin’s wedding this summer, and for all the details and decor they’ve chosen!

Check out there slideshow below ;)

Stay Classy :)
