Jen & Bryan: Engagement Session in Yaletown

We FINALLY got together with Jen and Bryan after rescheduling numerous times due to weather and each of our busy schedules!  It was great to see them again since we met last fall, and it was super fun to hang out with them in Yaletown last Sunday!  Shout outs to our super assistant Ali, and our friend and intern for a day Chris who shot some video!  Enjoy!

Dan and I had scouted areas around Yaletown about and hour and a half before the session started, and by the time we did start at 6:30pm, we had lost our sun!!  Bah!  But that’s ok, we were inspired and challenged to make changes to our plans and it turned out great!!
Some natural shots by me….
And lit ones by Dan!  Love how we work together!
So here’s an example of being super spontaneous!  We stumbled upon an empty pool hall and take advantage of it! The manager was kind enough let us in for half price to do some shots!  Good job Dan!
Rim lighting is always a winner!! Right after this shot, we headed down to the Yaletown Canada Line Station to try and do some cool blurred/motion shots with the train, but we were quickly kicked out for not having shooting permission. Oh well, better ask for forgiveness than for permission!
Again when we scouted before the session, we came across this really REALLY cool light fixture/lamp store, but they closed before we started our e-session!  That’s ok, we used the window of the store front instead!
Sexy sexy!
Getting into some night time shots…
We discovered this really neat…thing…not really sure what is it, but nonetheless, we knew exactly what we were going to do!
Thanks for a sweet e-session, it was great to get to know you guys, and thanks for being troopers and doing everything we threw at you!  We look forward to seeing you this September!!

Deanna & Jason: E-Session in Gastown and Coal Harbour

Dan and I had so much fun hanging out with Deanna and Jason last Sunday for their engagement session.  We met at the Steam Clock in Gastown, and spent some time through back alleys and hidden areas.  They’re super nice and have a great sense of humor, we got along so well with them.  We’re looking forward to their wedding in late August!  Enjoy!

Love the depth of field in this shot!
Dan’s angle with flash!  Nice lighting babe!
Dan and I scouted out a few locations just before meeting up with the two lovebirds, and found this cool hallway with these awesome tiles in the lobby area of an apartment building!  A shout out to Andie, the young lady who let us in!
Just love the intimacy in this photo.
We found this awesome corridor that had windows which gave us some cool reflections!
It was a gray day, so we created our own sun to get this cool shadow effect. Love how just one eye is lit!
We were setting up to do a casual walking shot and sent Deanna and Jason across the street from Gassy Jack to walk towards us.  However, they were held up by this sightseeing bus!  The bus driver got out and started talking to them and everyone in the bus started waving!  It was pretty funny!
We snuck into this cool little cafe called Brioche that Dan knew about to do a few shots, and then headed to Coal Harbour for some outdoorsy photos!
Gray says are often ideal for shooting, and one of the reasons is that usually there are some great clouds in the sky.  Love the scenic view of the North Shore behind them!
One last outfit change for the last few shots…they are SO CUTE!!  They came out in their matching shirts and matching shoes for some casual and fun photos…
Hi-YA!
This last location was a must to hit up; a simple parking lot with literally a hole in the wall. With good lighting and a fun couple, anything is possible!

We had so much fun with Deanna and Jason, we spent almost 3 hours with them!  If we didn’t have a meeting shortly after their session, I’m pretty sure we would have kept going!  Save it for the wedding day!

Thanks for a great time guys, see you in August!

Harmony & Nicky: Sweet E-Session in Richmond

So Dan and I were REALLY excited to shoot Harmony and Nicky’s engagement session last weekend.  We scouted some wicked areas in Richmond, and we were pumped for their session.  Once we were done, we were even MORE excited to see the images!  We knew we had some amazing things, because Harmony and Nicky are an amazing couple!  They’re so kind and nice, cute and sweet, GOOD lookin’ and fun! We had such a great time hanging out with them, we kind of lost track of time and the session went on for over three hours!

A shout out to Rachel who was the super assistant of the day!  Thanks for going to all ends to create some good lighting for us…including falling into a deep hole full of water and getting your entire left leg wet!

Here are some favs of the day, enjoy!

So here we Nicky braved the swamps and went in with bare feet!  Harmony and the rest of us had boots, though Rachel and I managed to get very wet…soggy feet!

It was super to work with Harmony and Nicky, they barely needed any direction, they are such naturals in front of the camera!
Everywhere we went there were great spots to shoot.  Love tall grass!
Kinda looks like we’re in a dry desert…love the landscape here, I think this is my new favorite spot!
So peaceful and romantic…
Gosh they look so good!
An outfit change and balloons!  Great idea, and LOVE your dress Harmony, they have pockets!  So cute!  She bought it on Etsy!
I wasn’t quite sure what Dan’s vision was when he got on top of this dumpster thing, and had Rachel and I hold these balloons precisely in place….but I gotta say…good job babe, I love it!
Gotta say, just love my 28 f/1.4 lens…such a beauty!
So when we scouted, we found these awesome abandoned tractor trailer frame things.  LOVE these shots!
We discovered this work site, which was empty as we were there after hours. Whoo hoo!
Thank you Harmony and Nicky for a GREAT shoot!  We had a blast with you!  Thanks Rachel for helping us out, we couldn’t have done it without you!  I don’t know why my mouth is hanging wide open….:)

Alicia & Matt: Rainy E-Session @ SFU

It’s Sunday, May 2nd.  We’re driving through Burnaby to get to SFU and it starts pouring cats and dogs.  No! We don’t want to have to reschedule another engagement session because of this darn weather!  But once we got to our destination, the weather had smartened up….well, the rain ceased, but it was still really cold!  Thanks Alicia and Matt for braving the cold weather.  And thanks Alicia for lending Kat a jacket… she was a little cold!

It was our first time shooting at SFU, and it was nice to be somewhere new and fresh.  Definitely going back again!  Here are some top favs of Alicia and Matt’s engagement session!

The great thing about being on a university campus on a Sunday afternoon…..no one is there!  No background people!
Cuddly shots…
Both Alicia and Matt have great smiles:)
We were using our new flash for the first time, and it rocked! Dan is in love…all over again… he gets this way about gear.  ;)
Sweet silhouette Dan!
Infrared!
I had been told that SFU is all concrete and boring, but to a photographer’s eye, it’s awesome!  There are definitely some cool architecture designs, including these square cutouts lining this outside hallway.  Nice shadows!
The cork board is outside and as you can see, it has a bunch of old staples and ripped signs.  With the right lighting and a cute couple, man we make this cork board look guuud!
Ooooh side lighting….
We’re super glad that Alicia and Matt directed us a few levels up to where these awesome mosaic walls are.  Great colors.  LOVE this shot of Alicia and Matt.  It’s so candid and a moment between just the two of them… okay and a couple of photographers.
Thanks for a great shoot guys!  Looking forward to seeing you guys again in July!

Jose & Veronica: Flamenco Wedding!

There were so many things about Jose and Veronika’s wedding that was so great.  Sweet limo, sweet dress, wicked candy bar (for Kat anyway…;) However, it was their ceremony that was deeply touching.  Emotions running high, and tears on everyone’s faces, this was most definitely the most emotional ceremony we have ever witnessed. It was beautiful!  Here are some highlights of the day!

Sweet limo did I not say?  It was rad.
Veronika had such an amazing dress that she found at Bello Wedding World on Main Street.  And some sexy shoes from Guess by Marciano to go along!
Let’s not forget about the groom!  Jose had a custom made suit from Harry Rosen and it was SLICK!  And maybe Jose didn’t have sexy shoes to go along with his suit, however, he did have some pretty blinged out cuff links that Dan raved about all day.
Simple pastel roses for the bridesmaid’s bouquets, very pretty!
Stunning bride and her handsome groom!  It was a bit chilly out this day, so Veronika and all her girls sported a little jacket to go along with their dresses.
Looking good gentlemen!
A very touching moment as Veronika’s father hugs Jose.  It was hard to keep back from getting emotional myself.
Veronika gave her vows in Spanish, then in English.  More tears all around.
After their vows, they performed a duet together.  We’ve never seen anything like this at a ceremony.  It was very special.  Veronika has an amazing voice, and Jose….!  Mad guitar skillz!
I love this shot that Dan took.
With a dress like that, we had to do something cool!
Wedding party.  Stoic….
Everyone in the party was super fun, and willing to stand the cold outdoors underneath the Burrard Street Bridge!
After the bridge, we stopped outside the Sheraton Wall Center for some drama…
On our way to the reception, we made a pit stop to another bridge.
Thank you to our assistant Julian who provided some awesome lighting skills!
The UBC Boathouse is a very cool location.  Great building, great light inside, and very intimate!
Instead of dancing at the end of the night, Veronika and Jose provided their guests with entertainment…with SWEET awesome entertainment!  They had a group of flamenco dancers and musicians, and it was so mesmerizing! What an exotic form or art!
It was a pleasure to work with Jordan from the Fairy Godmother Weddings planning team and her assistant Dee.  They did such an amazing job making sure everything went smoothly.

Thank you Veronika and Jose for having us be part of your day, it was great!

Have a wonderful time in Italy!
